I first came to Symi in 1980 and for the first two years styaed in Pedi. The Rainbow and Lefteris were certainly bars but the Rainbow only had a small bar during the winter. I styaed there from 1983 for many years when it operated as a pension. I can’t remember all that building work so I’d guess it probably took place no later than 1982. Happy memories of chatting with Yiannis when he came up for shower duty. There were 2 communal showers but no shower curtains so the water used to spill out into the corridor. He began to bring a bottle of Metaxa up with him and eventually left it in the room for me. It seemed impolite not to drink some but it was fierce 1 Star stuff… HAPPY DAYS!
